Hospice Volunteer Opportunities

Every hospice relies on volunteer support to provide excellent end-of-life care to each patient and family.
With Loving Hands Hospice, your interests and hobbies can be turned into meaningful and fulfilling moments.

The Loving Hands Hospice Volunteer Program has opportunities available for two types of volunteers:

Patient Care Volunteers play an important role on our hospice team by providing comfort and emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families. Whether it’s providing companionship to the person in their final months and weeks of life or offering respite support to family members and caregivers, you will gain great personal satisfaction from knowing you have made an impact in another person’s life.  Some of the tasks may include:

  • Staying with patients while family members get much-needed rest
  • Running errands for patients and families
  • Reading, or providing a comforting touch
  • Playing or singing soothing music
  • Providing a friendly visit to lift a patient’s spirits
  • Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours

Administrative Volunteers provide a variety of office-based services which support direct patient care activities.

Some of the tasks may include:

  • Data Entry
  • Mailings
  • Photocopying
  • Filing Documents
  • Fundraising Activities
  • Answering the Phone in the Office
  • Assisting in Coordinating Support Services

Becoming a Volunteer

When you become a volunteer, we will provide you with a detailed orientation to the Loving Hands Hospice program, so you will understand our caring philosophy and our goals.  We will also provide you with the on-going skill training needed, for you to assist our patients and their families.

As a Loving Hands Hospice volunteer, you can donate as much or as little time as you desire.

All volunteers selected must follow these additional requirements:

  • Provide information about your health, physical limitations, etc.
  • Complete all required paperwork and release forms.
  • Have a Tuberculosis (TB) test performed.  The cost of this test will be reimbursed to you.
  • We suggest that hospice volunteers wait a minimum of one year after the death of an immediate family member or loved one.

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with our organization.
